The Course Comprises

  • Definition and types of pressure vessels

  • Applicable codes and standards (ASME/ API/ NACE/ ANSI/ Etc.)

  • Scope and limitations of the codes (advantages/ disadvantages)

  • Main differences between ASME VIII Division-1 and Division-2

  • Theories of Design – Material properties for material selection (corrosion and high/ low temperature criteria)

  • Thickness calculations for design conditions (Internal and External Pressures)

  • Concept of Primary and Secondary stresses

  • Extended allowable stress ranges for these stresses

  • Nozzle connection reinforcement requirements

  • General introduction to WRC-107/ 297 local load analysis (or FEA criteria, as required)

  • Basic introduction to equipment support design such as lugs/ legs/ saddle/ skirt.

  • Wind and Earthquake considerations

  • Fabrication and inspection criteria for the 2 codes

  • Introduction to TEMA standard for shell/ tube heat exchangers and its contents.

  • Case study for internal/ external pressure calculations for a typical pressure vessel.

  • Case study explaining calculations for wind and earthquake calculations
