Dexon’s partner had a persistent problem.
They had installed pipelines beneath a platform at water level, placing the lines in a harsh transition zone where part of the pipe remained constantly submerged while the rest sat exposed to humid air. In other words: a perfect corrosion cocktail.
To top it all off, the pipelines were extremely difficult to access. Previous inspections required major scaffolding work, draining operations, and lengthy shutdowns.
PipeGlide, one of Dexon’s latest NDT innovations, was designed specifically to solve that problem.
The amphibious robotic inspection platform is remotely operated by inspection crews and uses phased array ultrasonic testing (PAUT) to inspect welds, corrosion, and difficult-to-access sections of pipeline — all while the system remains in operation.
Earlier prototypes proved the concept was possible. Last week, engineers proved it could perform in the field under real operating conditions.
And it delivered: high-quality integrity data and nearly USD 100,000 in savings per inspection campaign by reducing shutdown and preparation requirements.
