Dacon Ultrasonic In-Line Inspection (ILI) Pipeline Integrity Gauges (PIGs) and Inspection Data
Advancements in Ultrasonic (UT) In-Line Inspection (ILI) Pipeline Integrity Gauges (PIGS) have allowed for the increase of inspection data accuracy as well as the inspection of non-ferrous materials such as metals and plastics like High Density Poly Ethylene (HDPE) pipelines. UT PIGs offer advanced wall thickness measurements in addition to the detection and measurement of cracking in pipe walls. Dacon offers UT ILI PIGS for the inspection of pipelines from 4’ up to 52” with the completely custom PIG development available for larger I.D. pipelines.
Ultrasonic Inspection Data Analysis
UT PIGs offer direct wall thickness measurements allowing for precise remaining wall thickness analysis. Dacon’s proprietary data analysis software reports all anomalies detected including metal loss and defects in pipe walls as well as pipeline features. A screenshot can be seen below with A scan, B Scan, and C Scan data showing all angles of the anomaly.
Viewer Panel – Displays measurements of the entire inspection run from one end of the pipeline to the other.
A-Scan – Graphical representation of ultrasonic amplitude and time of flight information.
B Scan – Shows a cross section, with defects displayed around the edge of the pipe.
Circumferential B Scan – Shows a cross section of the pipe wall with precise remaining wall thickness measurements.
C Scan – Shows a top-down view of the pipe wall displaying defect and feature area axially down the pipe.
Color Scale – Remaining wall thickness is displayed using a color scale ranging from green to black as can be seen below with nominal (initial) wall thickness (Green) to an absence of pipe wall (Black).
Dacon UT ILI Fleet
The Dacon Ultrasonic Pipeline Integrity Gauge fleet has been specifically designed to cover all pipeline configurations and materials
Ultrasonic Rotary (UT-R) – Offers high-definition metal loss detection and sizing capabilities.
Ultrasonic Multi-Channel Ring (UT-MC Ring) – Offers higher inspection speeds and longer inspection run distances.
Ultrasonic Multi-Channel Octopus (UT-MC Octopus) – Offers inspection of pipe wall in highly attenuated product mediums such as heavy crude oil, with ultrasonic transducers raised up to the pipe wall surface on mechanical arms.
Ultrasonic Multi-Channel Furnace (UT-MC Furnace) – Offers inspection capabilities of furnace pipe walls with an I.D. of down to 4” as well as negotiating 1D bend return bends.
Ultrasonic Crack Sizing Hawk (UT-CS Hawk Crack System) – The latest addition to the Dacon fleet offers 1mm axial and circumferential crack detection and sizing with 90% POD.
