Dexon Technology is proud to have donated over one hundred backpacks to an underprivileged school in Chonburi. The donation was the result of the WeCycle project, a collaboration between major Thai companies to reduce waste and support underprivileged communities.
WeCycle
The WeCycle initiative collects recyclable materials from participating companies and repurposes them into everyday items like laptop bags, hampers, bedding, and backpacks. These items are then distributed to marginal communities in need – reducing waste while supporting those in need.
Initially launched by WHA and PTT Global Chemical Company Limited, the project has since grown, attracting partners throughout Thailand.
Earlier this year, Dexon joined the campaign. Along with fellow participants, the company contributed over 3,500 water bottles weighing in at 54kg. These recycled bottles were processed into backpacks, and Dexon, WHA, and PTT then distributed these to underprivileged students at Baan Map Lam Bid School.
Solving Thailand’s Plastic Problem
Pollution, especially plastic waste, is a pressing issue globally, and Thailand is no exception. The Pollution Control Department reports that Thailand produced nearly 27 million tons of plastic last year, ranking fourth among ASEAN countries.
Some of this plastic is improperly disposed of and reaches the ocean, wreaking havoc on the ecosystem. The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources reports that 150 sea turtles, 100 whales and dolphins, and 12 dugongs die each year from ingesting plastic.
On top of this, the oceans are being flooded with microplastics as waste breaks down, disrupting the environment and harming humans further down the food chain.
The government aims to recycle 100% of plastic waste by 2027, but the initiative has faced setbacks, particularly following the pandemic.
Programs like WeCycle offer hope, bringing businesses together to recycle their waste and promote a more sustainable lifestyle.
Dexon’s Commitment to a Greener Future
Dexon’s involvement in the WeCycle program is part of its larger commitment to sustainability. In addition to WeCycle, Dexon is participating in a number of company-wide initiatives to reduce their footprint.
The company is working towards Zero Waste by ensuring all office waste is properly separated and disposed of.
Dexon is also on track to becoming a Zero Landfill company, meaning no industrial waste is sent to landfills. Instead, waste is either processed into alternative fuels through fuel blending or sold to recyclers.
Between these and other eco-initiatives, Dexon is committed to helping solve pollution and creating a greener future for everyone.
